Margot Versus The Marathon



I'm running the Eugene Marathon on Sunday, April 29th at 7:00 AM PST.  I'm notoriously lazy about training for marathons which is why I've created this tab.  The potential for public embarrassment will get me everywhere. 

Training Start Date: February 3rd, 2012.  

Week 1:  
Friday - 10 miles easy + 3 at 7:30 pace
Saturday - 5 miles easy
Sunday - 6 miles easy
Monday - 4 miles easy (yeah yeah, I know...too many easy days in a row)
Tuesday - 2x3200m @6:48 pace + 3.5 miles in warm up / cool down.  7.5 miles total
Wednesday - 7 miles easy
Thursday - 3 miles at 6:49 pace + 4 at 7:40 pace + 90 seconds rest + 1 mile at 6:31.  1 mile in warmup and cooldown.  This was ridiculously hard.  9 miles total.

Week 1 Total:  48.5 miles.
Thoughts:  Too many junk miles. Would have liked to take a day off for biking.

Week 2:
Friday: 3 miles easy
Saturday: 18 miles.  14 moderate, last 4 at 7:40 pace. 
Sunday:  20 mile bike ride
Monday: 5 miles easy
Tuesday:  A sad attempt at a 6 mile marathon pace run. 1 mile warmup, 4.25 mi at 7:35.  Had to stop, 1 mile cooldown. 
Wednesday:  7  miles easy
Thursday: 2x2.25 mi. with 2400m at 6:49, 800m at 6:31, 400m at 6:15.  7 miles total. 
Week 2 total:  45 miles. 
Thoughts:  Should be keeping weekly mileage more around 50+.  Got some decent quality workouts in. 


Week3: 
Friday:  5x1 mile at 6:55 average pace, 2 minute rest.  9 miles total. 
Saturday: 4 mile VERY slow hilly run.  Almost a walk.   In Tahoe. 
Sunday:  6 miles easy.  In Tahoe. 
Monday:  4 miles easy
Tuesday:  7x1 mile at average of 6:47 pace on TM.  9 miles total.
Wednesday:  Relaxed 7 mile run
Thursday:  8x400 meter hill.  Recovery was running DOWN the hill. 7 miles total.  Surprisingly hard! (Also, sick)

Week 3 Total:  46 miles.  
Thoughts:  Mysteriously missing a long run.  That said, I think I'm getting stronger.


Week4:
Friday:  3 miles very easy.  I was sick, so I snuck out of my aprt. so my roommate wouldn't notice. Yeah, real normal.
Saturday: 17 miles. 12 easy + 5 around GMP (I averaged 7:34 on these).  Wasn't half bad!
Sunday: 20 mile bike ride.
Monday:  5 miles easy.
Tuesday:  3x2400m at 6:48 average pace on track. 3 minutes rest between sets. 8 miles total.
Wednesday: 5 mile recovery run
Thursday: 7x400m hill.  About 6 miles total

Week 4 total: 44 miles total
Thoughts:  I'm a little confused because my legs are hella tired, yet my mileage remains relatively low. Sigh.  Blame it on my early week sickness.

Week 5
Friday:  8 miles at GMP (7:40 avg. pace) + 1200m at GHMP. This was supposed to be 10 miles. 9 miles total.
Saturday:  Full Day Off . Crazy!
Sunday:  6 Miles easy
Monday:  7 miles easy. 
Tuesday:  Crappy 4x mile repeats at 6:31 goal pace (6:31, 6:32, 6:43, 6:49).  Dead legs. 8 miles total
Wednesday:  Elliptical + 1 mile
Thursday:  6 miles at 7:40, 2 miles at 6:47, 1 mile cooldown.

Week 5 total: 39 miles
Thoughts:  I am definitely overtraining and am going to let myself take easy days off running if needed.
(edit...turns out I've been wearing the same shoes since Thanksgiving.  Replaced and instantly felt better. Oops.)

Week 6
Friday:  20 mile bike ride
Saturday:  12 miles easy + 5 miles at 7:40 + 1 cooldown = 18 total
Sunday: 6 miles easy
Monday: 30 minute elliptical + 3 miles
Tuesday: 3200m, 2x1600m, 800m, 400m (13:30, 6:32, 6:34, 3:10, 1:38) = 8.5 miles total
Wednesday:  25 minutes on elliptical + 3 miles
Thursday: 8 mile tempo alternating half miles at 7:40, 6:50.  10 miles total.

Week 6 total:   46.5 miles

Week 7
Friday:
Saturday: 14 mile run
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday:  Track workout with a million repeats.  10 miles total.
Wednesday
Thursday:  20 mile run (with last two at 7:20 pace)

Week 7 total: 51 miles.  (sorry I don't remember what my easy workouts were that week, I just remember the total.  Happy to get over 50 miles)

Week 8
Friday: 3 miles + ellitical
Saturday: 18 mile bike ride
Sunday:  15k race (7:06 pace) + 4 miles in warmup and cooldown
Monday:  5 mile run
Tuesday:  8 miles
Wednesday:  Crappy attempt #1 at workout (2400m at 6:40, 1600m at 6:40...then quit and did 3.5 miles slow).  6 miles total
Thursday:  Crappy attempt #2 at workout (2 miles easy, 2 miles at GMP, went to elliptical for 30 minutes.  Clearly I'm not recovered yet.   4 miles total

Week 8 total: 39 miles.
